WORLD DEBUT EXHIBIT OF MOTOWN VISUAL ARTIST A "HIT" IN WASHINGTON, DC - Former BET & FOX TV Correspondent, Now Self-Taught Artist, Emerges On The Artistic Scene with More Than Fifty Original Acrylic Canvases

Washington, D.C. - Emerging new artist and native Detroiter, M. Gasby Brown, was featured at a World Premier Art Exhibit, NO PERMISSION NEEDED 2004 Saturday, October 23, 2004 in the Grand Foyer of the historic Jefferson Hotel.

M. Gasby Brown, a self-taught artist inspired by her personal dreams, vivid imagination and expressive visions, sold more than 30 of her 50 artistic expressions created in just two years. This budding talent has taken the art world by a storm with her passionate blends of colors and themes reflective of her cultural background, thoughts and personal experiences. The style and expressions of some of her work is influenced by artistic giants such as William Tolliver, Jacob Lawrence, LaShun Beal, Lee White, and Annie Lee.

As a result of her debut exhibit, Brown has been commissioned by an international women's organization to create an original work dedicated to Latinas in film and video. A national organization headquartered in Orlando, Florida has asked for permission to use her work, Praise, as an image for a national fundraising initiative. And the momentum continues. A Prince George's County business organization has asked her to exhibit her work at their annual Christmas gala.

Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and now residing in Fort Washington, Maryland, Gasby's painting career began in July of 2002. "For several months, I had a recurring dream about painting trees and other objects. Even when I was awake, the images of painting were vivid and continued to haunt me," Gasby recalls. She made the courageous decision to align the vision with reality and started her painting journey. Her first painting was, indeed, a tree.
